Strong Voice: Going Formal

This session trains teachers on how to use body language and tone to convey confidence, formality, and warmth while giving directions and corrections. It builds on key elements of Strong Voice, focusing specifically on how great teachers project their authority in a way that maintains and even strengthens relationships with students.

Through analysis of master teachers’ techniques and deep practice, participants in the session will strengthen skills by practicing:

  • Going Formal while they deliver directions and corrections
  • Adding warmth to corrections and directions
  • Making shifts in body language and tone “pop” for students (i.e. make especially visible)

Our goal is for you to save time that you would otherwise spend creating a PD session from scratch and to dive deep into the small concrete actions that can take your teachers’ skills from good to great. The Plug and Play provides you with:
✓ A fully customizable PowerPoint presentation with embedded videos of teachers effectively Going Formal
✓ 17 video clips, with detailed analysis of each clip
✓ A bonus clip of one of the practice activities modeled by our team
✓ Carefully designed practice activities
✓ Feedback Cheat Sheets—prioritized success points for coaching teachers on Going Formal
✓ Participant Handouts for interactive note taking
✓ Next steps to ensure what is learned in the session carries over to classrooms

This module can be used by any school. It does not require leader experience with or school-wide implementation of Teach Like a Champion techniques.
