I never miss one of Doug’s blog posts. Whether he is swooning over outstanding teacher practice he observed on a school visit or discussing how he reads with his own children, I know I am going to learn something valuable. In the past two years, Doug and his team at Uncommon have profoundly influenced how we train teachers at TNTP. They really are as good as it gets.
I was a 15 year teacher coming from a very distinguished school district. Last year was my first year in an urban setting and I struggled. Our principal attended a TLaC workshop last year and did a three hour PD for us in August. This year has been great because my systems and routines are there, my non-verbals are there, the control is there so I can really focus on teaching and not just managing. Now I can spend time scripting the higher order thinking questions into my lessons.
