I’m super excited to announce that I’m going to be running a workshop for soccer coaches in coordination with EDP Soccer on May 20 in East Brunswick, NJ.

The workshop will focus on how to plan and run better training sessions.  I’ll be drawing on the work of cognitive scientists like Anders Ericsson, Daniel Willingham and Brown/Roediger/McDaniel (the Make it Stick guys) as well as my own studies of high performing teachers.

We’ll watch soccer coaches in action, via video, then discuss analyze and practice ourselves.  Topics will include giving better feedback, planning better sessions, checking for understanding effectively and building positive culture.

I’ll be using material I’ve used in workshops with US Soccer to train top coaches, instructors and academy directors.

Please consider posting presentation online or sharing. I would pay a fee to have your content, then share your content with my coaching staff. I’ve been a long follower of your site and learn greatly from your posts.

    Thank you for your consideration.

Thanks, Brian. So nice of you to say. I’ll try to post some highlights (and maybe to get out your way some time soon)

      Best,

      Doug

        Hi Doug,

I am based in England. I already use your book as a teacher and would like to know how this translates to my role as a coach. How could I access the content?

Hi, Andy. Thanks for your note. Maybe at some point i will get the chance to do a workshop on teaching as coaching in the UK, but for now i am afraid you may have to cobble things together. I’ve tried to write blog posts here that address some of the content. And if you wanted to you could sign up for the USSF F license course and see a 20 minute video i produced. And I am about to start a book: the (soccer/football) coach’s guide to teaching. Keep you posted and will try to share pieces on the blog. best, Doug
